Weather based Agromet-Advisories (for the period ending on 13th August, 2023)

Advisory based on advices received from the subject matter specialists of agromet-advisory committee:

  • In the paddy plants in the field started turning yellow i.e. top leaves turned yellow and bottom leaves remained green, farmers may spray zinc sulphate solution (6.0 kg zinc sulphate dissolved in 300 litres of water / ha.).
  • Farmers should do weeding and hoeing in the standing crops and vegetables to protect them from weeds keeping in mind their rapid growth in the rainy season. Farmers are also advised to monitor all crops regularly against white flies and sucking pests.
  • This is most suitable time to grow fodder sorghum specially Pusa chari-9, Pusa chari-6 or other hybrids. Seed rate should be 20 kg/acre.
  • Transplanting of brinjal, tomato, chilli and early cauliflower on ridge is advised for those farmers whose seedlings are ready. Proper drainage should be done in the fields.
  • Farmers are advised for sowing of guar (Pusa Navbahar, Durga Bahar), radish (Pusa Chetki), cluster bean (Pusa Komal), Beans (Pusa Sem 2, Pusa Sem 3), spinach (Pusa Bharti), amaranths (Pusa lal Chaulai, Pusa Kiran) and ladyfinger (Pusa A-4) on ridges. They are also advised to procure good quality seeds from certified sources. Proper drainage should be done in the fields.
  • Rainy season onion should be transplant or direct sown in the prepared fields. Proper drainage should be done in the fields.
  • Farmers are advised for sowing of sweet corn (Madhuri, win orange) and baby corn (HM-4) in this week. Proper drainage should be done in the fields.
  • Bees are important source for pollination in vegetable crops therefore, bee keeping should be promoted. Constant monitoring of the crops should be done for insect and disease. Farmers should take advice from the nearest KVKs for use of insecticides and other information regarding the crops.
  • Farmers are advised to use light trap to keep a check on pest population. This causes less damage to useful insects. For making a light trap, a bulb should be fixed above a tumbler (either plastic or tin) having a mixture of water and few drops of any insecticide. The insects get attracted towards the light, fall in the solution and die.
  • Farmers are advised to prepare marigold nursery (Pusa narngi) in net house. Proper drainage should be done in the fields.
  • Farmers who want to establish new orchard gardens (Mango, citrus and guava) are advised for transplanting of plants from recognized sources.
